After negotiations between the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Marine Life of Ireland and the relevant officials of Japan, the Land of the Rising Sun lifted a 30-month restriction on the supply of Irish beef.
"I am pleased to announce that we have successfully changed the terms of the export certificate of health for beef, so that the previous age limit of 30 months is now lifted, and beef from cattle of all ages is now entitled to export," said Minister Creed.
This decision came after a check in Ireland by a group of inspectors from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare in March 2019 of Irish beef.“This is evidence of the close cooperation of Team Ireland and our very productive relationship with our Japanese colleagues in expanding access to markets,” the minister said.
According to the country's Central Statistical Office, in 2018, Ireland exported beef worth 3.6 million euros, 840 tons of this product were delivered directly to Japan. Most of these supplies were bullish languages, a delicacy in Japan. At the end of March 2019, about 200 tons of Irish beef were exported to Japan.
