Greening the production of fruits and vegetables is one of the priority areas in the work of the UHBDP project. The team of the PA “Land of Tavria” always supports environmental friendly technologies and promotes them at their events.
At one of the workshops on cooperation, biodegradable film was presented: its advantages as an environmental material, scope of use.
Irina Evtukh, a participant in the Ukrainian Horticulture Business Development Project (UHBDP), became interested in the new product, but it turned out that the cost of such a mulching film is quite high. Agronomists of the IMMER Group agreed to an experiment and provided an ecological film for testing in 1200.
Irina for the first time among the producers of the Kherson region tried such a film for the production of watermelons. Therefore, the experiment began in April. According to Irina, the watermelon seedlings are doing well, and although at first they slowed down, compared to the usual ones, they later quickly caught up in development.
Therefore, we hope that the biodegradable film will have its special advantages, so that our farmers evaluate and begin to use it more often and refuse polyethylene. Recall that in a natural way, plastic decomposes over a period of 100 to 500 years, so if its production is not reduced, the entire planet will soon be littered with used bags.
Today, plastic is present in every square mile of the ocean, 100 thousand animals die every year from such pollution. And the recycling of waste is poorly developed (it takes only 1% of the polyethylene on the planet).
