The England Farmers Tenants Association is deeply concerned about the declining confidence among farmers in agroecology programs run by Natural England, an independent government agency in the United Kingdom funded by the Department of the Environment, Food and Agriculture and the Rural Payments Agency.
The decline in farm confidence in the programs is due to poor administration by the supervising authorities. The fact is that about 14,000 payments made to farmers for environmental protection remain unpaid, and about 8,000 payments for rural assistance for 2018 are still at the processing stage.
According to the Executive Director of the Farmers-Tenants Association, George Dunn, since agro-environmental programs were first launched in England over 30 years ago, they have always found support among the farming community, which has welcomed partnerships with the government to conserve landscape and biodiversity, but patience is now coming to an end.People try to run a business and work in a tight budget and cash flow environment, while landlords require them to regularly pay rent for the use of land. The rural payment agency sent many apologies to the tenant farmers apologizing for late payments, but at the same time, it does not indicate when the due payments will be made. All this taken together causes great disappointment among farmers.
