The incineration of straw left on the ground after harvest has a negative impact on the level of grain yield, the Azerbaijani Minister of Agriculture reports.
After harvesting from their plots, farmers often set fire to straw and other plant debris, causing great damage to the soil, thereby lowering yield.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, during the combustion of dry plants in the fields, organic substances that are in the soil evaporate, which significantly reduces its fertility.
Straw burns out in 30-40 seconds, but during this time the soil manages to warm up to 360 ° C. When burning 1 ton of straw per 1 ha of land, 2-2.5 kg of phosphorus, 4-4.5 kg of nitrogen, 8-10 kg of potassium are taken from the soil. This leads to a decrease in yield next year by 20-30%, according to the ministry.
Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture inform about responsibility for setting fire to the fields. For such actions, individuals can be fined in the amount of 400-600 manats, officials - 1.5-2 thousand manats, legal entities - 5-6 thousand manats.
For information, as of July 1, 2019, Azerbaijani farmers collected 2 million 514.61 thousand tons of grain. The yield of crops harvested in 2019 was 32.1 c / ha.
