41 countries sent about 3.5 thousand varieties of cheese from around the world to the World Cheese Awards. Competitions were held in Norway, and the winners were determined by a competent international jury.
Coincidence or not, but the Norwegian product was recognized as the best cheese at the competition in Norway. The gold medal was received by a sample of the Fanaost variety, which is produced in a suburb of Bergen.
Silver went to another Norwegian cheese - second place went to brown Helfeit, made from goat milk according to a traditional recipe. This cheese is produced by the craftsmen of the Sturdalen Gardsbruck farm, which is located near the town of Telemark.

Along with Norwegian cheeses, competition judges tasted samples from Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland. Evaluation of cheese was carried out immediately according to several criteria: color, texture, crust, moisture, friability, fat content and, of course, taste. The opportunity to appreciate cheeses was appreciated not only by experienced cheese makers and tasters, but also by well-known journalists, Internet bloggers, historians, museum staff and others.
We add that last year the first place in the cheese competition was won by Russian Alexei Andreev. A native of Moscow, he once moved to Tula to realize himself as a farmer. At the World Cheese Awards in 2017, he surprised everyone with soft goat cheese with mold and took home the winner’s gold medal.
