This summer, a bistro with beds will open at the Broadrain family farm in Grassmere in the Lake District, a mountainous region in northwestern England.
Built on the site of a former farm of the 17th century, Yan at Broadrayne Hotel will consist of a rustic bistro, an open-air living room and seven en-suite bedrooms.
First, a couple who moved from Yorkshire, David and Sally Kayleigh, bought the Broadrayne farm in 2012 and opened a hostel on it. Gradually, expanding and improving the business of Broadrayne Farm, it was able to invest more than half a million pounds in the creation of the original hostel. The Yan at Broadrayne project will be led by David and Sally's daughter Jess Mengli, along with her husband, a former chef at Forest Side Restaurant. The bistro will be open to guests of the Yan Hotel and just visitors. It will serve seasonal historic dishes from an ancient farm. The dishes of the “simple but stylish restaurant” will use local ingredients. The menu will include a Scottish duck egg with black pudding and mustard, chili mayonnaise, crispy ham and ratatouille rolls, as well as a shepherd's pie made from slowly stewed lamb and mashed cheese and potato.
Visitors will also be offered Cumberland sausage with mashed potatoes and apples, covered in black pudding and bacon, stewed red cabbage, crispy potato peel, green beans and garlic sauce. The new hotel will be the latest addition to the Broadrayne Farm, which already houses Grasmereamping cottages and Broadrayne Farm Holiday Cottages.
