This year, industry experts predict a generous harvest of gourds. The first Kherson watermelons will go on sale at the end of June. It is predicted that prices for them will start from 10 UAH / kg, and melons will cost about 25 UAH / kg in Kherson markets.
In areas farther from the growing area, watermelons will be sold at 15-20 UAH / kg, and melons - at 30-35 UAH / kg.
Given the projected overproduction, farmers and resellers are unlikely to be able to raise prices for melons and watermelons above last year's.
Earlier it was reported that melons and watermelons on the lands of the Kherson region successfully endured the weather. Some watermelon plantations were damaged by hail, but in general, a large amount of rainfall favorably affected them.
Watermelons love moisture no less than the sun's rays. Experts are more concerned with the long-term forecast of weather forecasters, according to which heavy rains will take place in August, and the first frosts will begin in September. It was at this time that a massive harvest of watermelons fell.
And their quality can seriously suffer due to such weather conditions. So far, Kherson watermelons are not on sale and only imported products are present in supermarkets. But buyers do not like it because of poor quality.
