According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Myanmar plans to become a seed exporting country in the next five to ten years.
Dr. E. Tin Tong, Director General of the Department of Agriculture, said: “To become a seed exporting country, Myanmar needs collaboration between departments such as the seed department and the plant protection department of the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Agricultural Research, the Customs Department and ministries of commerce, seed companies. ”
Farmers can increase their income only when they can use high-yielding seeds and new types of seeds that can quickly respond to climate change. This will help support the country's GDP growth, he continued.
Currently, the country is forced to import seeds from other countries. The government will coordinate with seed producers through a national discussion of a review of existing laws and procedures.
In addition, the government is trying to create a seed production system to give farmers easy access to high-quality seeds and produce the necessary seed in accordance with the growing season.
