Tomato prices have risen again in Ukraine, EastFruit project analysts said. At the end of last working week, selling prices for tomatoes began to fall, as the harvesting of ground tomatoes on farms in the south of Ukraine began. Today, tomatoes in the markets have again become more expensive by 17% - 18-23 UAH / kg (0.70-0.89 dollars / kg).
Greenhouse tomato, which is now already in the range of 27-30 UAH / kg or 1.05-1.16 dollars / kg, does not lag behind production of open ground, which is on average 23% more expensive than in the last days of the last working week.
According to manufacturers, the rise in price was due to the sharply reduced supply of greenhouse tomatoes this week. Soil tomato has also become smaller, which also ripens more slowly due to the onset of cold weather.
Currently, the supply of both greenhouse and soil tomatoes is limited against the backdrop of high demand. This makes it possible for farmers not only to maintain high prices for products, but also to raise them.
It is noteworthy that at present, tomatoes grown in open ground in Ukraine cost 3.6 times more than on the same date in 2018. Greenhouse tomatoes are now offered at prices that are 2.4 times higher than last year. .
