Today, one of the priority tasks of the region’s reindeer herders is the awarding of official status to commercial reindeer husbandry farms.

Another important task of the Yamal reindeer herders is to develop an alternative scheme for keeping horned animals. As an experimental site, an economy will be created near the mouth of the Yuredey-Yakh River, on the southern lands of the Tazovsky District. It is there that innovative reindeer herders will place pastures that will be surrounded by a fifty-kilometer fence to maintain animal safety. About half a million deer are expected to be located on these pastures.
