One of the faculties of the University of London, which was established in 1836 and since then relied on the preservation of traditions and the usual daily routine, this year diversified the history of the university with a unique innovation.
The fact is that the new dean of the division, Mr. Goldsmiths, took the initiative to remove beef from the daily menu in all student canteens, cafes and buffets on the university grounds.
The main reason for this initiative was the increase in greenhouse emissions as a result of the active development of animal husbandry worldwide.
As a result, from September 1, 2019, burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and other types of favorite student snacks will contain other types of meat instead of the usual beef.
This project is a long-term one, Goldsmiths notes. He emphasizes that the production of cattle meat, as well as poultry meat, entails enormous greenhouse gas emissions.
It is important to add that British farms have been responsible for nearly sixty percent of methane emissions and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere over the past three years.
Goldsmiths and his like-minded people hope that the rejection of beef by students will help reduce the production of cattle meat and, thereby, facilitate the ecological fate of the planet.
