Samples brought to Earth by the USSR space drone in 1970 will be put up for auction. The auction will be held in New York on November 29, 2018. Bidders want to help out between $ 700,000 and $ 1 million.
The current owner of these samples is an American collector. He bought them in 1993 from Nina Koroleva, the widow of the legendary leader of the Soviet space program Sergei Korolev. The Soviet Union presented her with lunar soil in recognition of the contribution of her late husband to the space program.
In general, wealthy collectors are ready to give away millions for space artifacts. In 2017, at the Sotheby's auction for $ 1.8 million, they gave away the bag of the American astronaut Neil Armstrong. The astronaut used the bag during the first manned mission to the moon in 1969. There are still remnants of moon dust in it.
