US President Donald Trump plans to hold a White House meeting on Friday April 12 to discuss next-generation 5G wireless networks and efforts to expand rural broadband access.
A White House spokesman confirmed that Ajit Pai and Trump, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, will comment on the deployment of 5G. Pai is expected to announce additional funds to help rural areas that do not have broadband access to access high-speed services.
Earlier, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission Agit Pay said that more than 700,000 rural homes and small businesses will receive the first ever high-speed Internet service at the FCC auction under the Connect America Fund program, stage II.In February, Trump called on US telecommunications companies to step up their efforts to build faster 5G wireless networks, saying they are lagging behind and risking being left out of the efforts of other countries.
Verizon Communications Inc, AT&T Corp, Sprint Corp and T Mobile US Inc are starting to deploy 5G services in US cities and are working to further expand their networks.
